What is it?

A cataract is when your eye's natural lens becomes cloudy. As we age, proteins in your lens break down and, as a result, things look blurry, hazy, or less colorful.

Symptoms

  • Blurred vision

  • Double vision

  • Extreme light sensitivity (especially while driving)

  • Difficulty seeing well at night or the need for additional light while reading

  • Colors seem faded

Causes

Aging is the most common cause of cataracts.  Other causes can include medical problems such as diabetes, previous eye injury, spending excessive time outdoors without sunglasses, the use of certain medications like corticosteroids, and smoking.

Diagnosis & Treatment
